In the context of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), which is taking place in Istanbul (Turkey), the African Declaration Drafter’s Group released the African Declaration on Internet Rights and Freedoms. CELE was one of the institutions that made suggestions during the consultative process which led to the drafting of the document.
The aim of the Declaration is to raise the necessary principles to defend human rights through Internet and cultivate a digital environment compatible with the needs of economic and social development of the African continent.
The initiative arose last year in the African Internet Governance Forum in Nairobi (Kenya). The Declaration will be presented in early 2015 at the African Union Conference of Ministers responsible for Communications and Information Technologies.
