The Conference has been held on June 9th, 2011 at the University of Palermo located in Mario Bravo 1050
What is the FORESTA Project?
It is a Project that promotes dialogue for ICT research cooperation between Europe and Latin America through activities such as the organization of conferences, policy dialogue forums, networking sessions, and the dissemination of information through the project’s website.
Who participate?
A consortium of partners from Latin America and Europe has been established to achieve those objectives.
Organizations from Belgium (TESEO), Spain (ROSE), and England (EFB) from Europe and from Latin America Colombia (Cintel) and countries that have signed Science & Technology (S&T) Agreements with the European Union: Argentina (UP), Brazil (USP), Chile (UTEM) and Mexico (ITESM) are participating in this initiative.
ALETI a regional organization, present in most of Central and South American countries participate to give the visibility of FORESTA project even in countries that are not directly involved.

Which activities are being performed?
The project is structured in two main blocks of activities:

1. Looking at immediate opportunities for cooperation between researchers of the two communities (Europe and Latin America) identified through the organization and follow-up of conferences in the five target countries.

2. Looking at Long-term perspectives centered on two sets of activities:
a. Analysis of current ICT policies in the region and identification of key research issues to be addressed in the future.

b. Recommendations for making better use of support instruments for ICT research cooperation (European or national funding programs and other initiatives).
Which are the objectives?
Furthermore, this project aims to refine the existing political framework for S&T cooperation into concrete cooperation projects and into more precise recommendations that will better define the research issues needing to be addressed, and thus, facilitate their implementation under the following three actions:

• Set up a cycle of five large brokerage conferences (one per country) in coordination with the policy dialogue between the target countries and the European Union.

• Run a foresight study on the direct involvement of the key stakeholders in ICT research in Latin America that will outline the commonalities of research strategies and the potential for further alignment with European policies with a long-term perspective.

• Support ICT research cooperation involving all ongoing projects and initiatives (INCONET or FP7) that sometimes overlap, but are able to generate a great benefit if coordination exists among these programs.

FORESTA is a project funded by the information and Communication Technologies. Programme of the Seventh Research Framework Programm
